Bhopal (SaifuddinSaify) Despite observing National Fire Service Week from April 14–20, Bhopal’s own administration is failing at basic fire safety.
– Major government buildings, including the Municipal Corporation’s 8-storey office, lack fire NOCs and working extinguishers.
– Expired fire extinguishers, some unrefilled for 9 years, are hung up just for show. Expiry dates have been deliberately erased.
– The Corporation’s own building sees 4,000–5,000 visitors daily, yet has no functional fire equipment despite having pipelines.
– Rules require annual fire audits and refilling, but officials have ignored them.
The irony: the department responsible for firefighting doesn’t follow its own safety rules, even as it lectures others.
